What is Grief, really?
Someone told me once that grief is love with nowhere to go. I've been thinking about that ever since. Because if it is true - and I believe it is - then grief isn't a problem. It's proof.
Proof that someone mattered. Proof that what you had was real. And when grief shows up - quietly at the kitchen table, or loudly in the middle of a perfectly ordinary afternoon - we often don't know what to do with it. We wonder if we doing it wrong. We wonder if it should be over by now.
Here's what we want you to hear from the very first blog: There is no wrong way to grieve.
Grief is not a five -step program. It's not a linear path from sad to healed. It doesn't care about your calendar. It shows up at Funerals, yes, - but also at Birthday parties, grocery stores, and 2 am on a Tuesday. It comes in waves. Some days are manageable. Others knock you flat without warning.
Grief can look like crying. It can also look like numbness, anger, relief, laughter, or just going through the motions because that's all you have energy for right now. It can follow the death of a person - or the end of a marriage, a friendship, a season of life, a dream that didn't come true.
This Blog - The Empty Chair - Conversations About Grief - exists because grief deserves a community. Not a clinical explanation. Not a lecture. Just honest, human words shared between people who understand what it means to miss someone, to feel the weight of an absence, and keep going anyway.
We're glad you're here. Pull up a chair.
